Should you feel the need to satiate the animal inside you, Saddle Peak Lodge is just a quick jaunt away in Calabasas. Plunked into the middle of the Santa Monica Mountains, the log-strewn cabin is the sort of burly man cave you'd like to joke about, if only the wine list wasn't so serious. The entrees are nothing to snark at either, with grilled New York buffalo, New Zealand elk tenderloin and racks of Australian lamb. You can feast on flesh under the heavy gaze of game that has come before, all impeccably mounted on the log cabin walls. Thankfully, the generous happy hour at Saddle Peak Lodge lightens things up considerably, with $5 bar bites including Cornish hen tacos or animal-friendly truffle fries. Selected cocktails and glasses of wine are also only $5 at happy hour, which is held Wednesday through Friday, meaning you'll have something to wash down your mid-week wild game corn dogs with. Looks like you don't need that weekend trip after all.
