Description

A 2004 renovation has given the once-shadowy Richmond landmark a cheerful ambience, but the food's as predictably Slavic-American as ever, with more than a few high points along the way. A simple, soothing borscht fragrant with fresh beets and spices complements tender pelmeni dumplings in a warm and creamy sauce. Moist, smoky quail with green grapes and stuffing could lead into feathery crepes bursting with soft, sweet apple. Seventeen vodkas (in both shot and bottle form) give everything an added glow. Insistent live music of the Slavic disco sort on the weekends.
