With a variety of the best smoked salmon in the city, Russ & Das also has the best prices. It has been in the Russ family since 1914, and in the same small, immaculate location. The staff is knowledgeable and will let you taste the salmon if you have a commitment aissuea. And they are fish slicing masters (Felix is your man for super-thin pieces). There is also sable, sturgeon, whole whitefish, and chubs, as well as salty, smoky, house-made whitefish salad. Around New Yearas, thereas a caviar express line when things get intense. (They take orders online and in advance by phone, too.) On the sweet side, thereas kookaburra licorice, chocolate bark, and jelly rings, and a huge dried fruit assortment.

    Be patient for your turn at the counter to pick up the best bagels, lox and chopped liver in NY. Perfect LES spot to grab provisions for a brunch or a yummy inventive sandwich (check out the Super Heebster or the Oy Vey Schmear).
