    Event Review: Lord Blackberry's Apocalypse

I did not know what to expect. But it was much better than I had anticipated.

Years ago I shocked myself by enrolling in an honors program as a freshman in college. I soon found out I was in over my head but not before learning to love Oedipus Rex.

    Oedipus, meet Lord Blackberry.

This is a complex drama but even in my first and only viewing I was able to follow the story line and get drawn into the title character and his minions. And relatives. Close relatives.

This play will make you think. And talk. You'll want to talk a lot about it. It's got humor, it's got great dialogue and it's got the kind of unnerving relationships that make a Greek tragedy a Greek tragedy.

The theater is small and not so grand. But the troupe is marvelous and the theater welcoming, intimate. Each character will make an impression, some will simply grip you so much that you cannot wait for their next lines.

The Ilyerian Players mixes genders in casting so men may play women and vice versa. Sound odd? It's not, really. It works great.

Ms. Bower's first work is impressive. She wrote and directed this amazing play with this incredible cast. Enjoy!
