David Schneider opened Row 14 in the Spire, a hip condominium high-rise, in March 2011, creating a New American concept well suited to the upscale neighborhood. The deep, high-ceilinged dining room isn't ostentatious, but it's richly appointed and luxurious, with dark-wood tables, a massive bar beneath dark-gray walls, and gold curtains that divide more intimate booths from the bar, which has become a community gathering place. The wine list is massive, and while the large board seems all over the place at first glance, with Eastern and Western cuisine listed side by side, it all comes together. This is how Row 14 interprets New American cuisine, a blend of dishes from many different cultures -- even if those cultures don't always blend on the plate.
Row 14's dizzying array of wine that can be ordered by the glass -- more than forty options in all, evenly divided between reds and whites -- is reason to toast. Feature a lineup that's too ambitious -- or changes too frequently -- and you might alienate fans who look forward to finding their faves night... More »
We fell head over heels in love with Row 14's wine list the first time we laid eyes on it. Curated with a heady mix of precision, nuance and a food-focused viewpoint by owner David Schneider, this list reads like a wine geek's all-star lineup of fantasy bottles, and is definitely edgier than other rosters in this city -- edgier, but not unapproachable. Oenophile-worthy bottles of chenin blanc and grüner veltliner cuddle up to familiar pinot grigio; varietal cab franc and... More »

Row 14 understands the rules associated with feeding and lubricating night-crawlers: Offer $5 cocktails, $4 craft beers, $2 PBRs in a can and complement the discounted liquids with food that's fit for a...
