Description

Formerly Hamburger Mary's, Rosie's is a mini paradise in the middle of Wilton Manors. Dance music blasts, gay-culture knickknacks litter the walls, colorful lanterns light the outside patio, and a good-looking friendly staff serves your food and drinks with a wink. Dishes have cheeky titles like "Big 'Dicts" (eggs benedict) and "Ivana Hooker." And, in addition to offering one of the best Sunday brunches in the area, Rosie's boasts a seven-hour happy hour. Wake up with buckets of mimosas, then stumble home after half-off beers, wines, and well drinks. You'll leave as cheerful as the décor.

  • 2011 | Best Bloody Mary

Rosie's bloody mary is a drink most blessed and revered: It's spicy enough to wake you up, tangy enough to please your taste buds, and filling enough to combat even the nastiest of hangovers. It's like a big, welcoming bowl of (alcoholic) tomato soup and even perfectly acceptable by most social standards to consume before noon -- lavish brunch not required. But should you opt for it, Rosie has you covered: "Sunday Funday Brunch" takes place every Sunday between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and... More »

  • 2008 | Best Sunday Brunch

Rosie's is just a nice place to be. Their lanai is big and cool and blessed with a funky Hawaii-lite aesthetic that somehow demands a mimosa (which they serve in "French," "Italian," and "Grand" varieties, the last involving Grand Marnier). And at brunch-time -- unlike, say, any other moment of the week -- Rosie's is quiet enough that you can actually hear your tablemates. Not that you'll want to. Rosie's brunch menu is filled with things that are a lot more appealing than a hung-... More »

  • 2007 | Best Happy Hour in Broward County

Drink prices at Rosies's drop down at 2 p.m., not the standard 4 o'clock happy hour. And that's just the first reason why this spot hosts the best happy hour in Broward County. (Just think, if you take your break late, your liquid lunch will be half price!) There's never an obnoxious "ladies' night" at this gay-friendly bar and grill, where free drinks leave your soul and patience with a heavy deficit. Rosie's celebrates all the major drinking holidays, like St. Patrick's Day and Mardis... More »

  • 2003 | Best Gay Bar

    >Neither strictly gay nor strictly a bar, newcomer Hamburger Mary's nevertheless qualifies as a breath of fresh air -- literally -- on the gay-bar scene: Its doors-wide-open breeziness is one reason it's such a refreshing place to sink a drink. A welcome jewel in the city's rejuvenation plan for the Wilton Drive corridor near Five Points, this uptempo eatery has a fully stocked bar, including Foster's, Guinness, and Bass Ale on tap and as many sprightly and colorful concoctions as there are... Rosie's is just a nice place to be. Their lanai is big and cool and blessed with a funky Hawaii-lite aesthetic that somehow demands a mimosa (which they serve in French, Italian, and Grand varieties, the last involving Grand Marnier). And at brunch-time - unlike, say, any other moment of the week - Rosie's is quiet enough that you can actually hear your tablemates. Not that you'll want to. Rosie's brunch menu is filled with things that are a lot more appealing than a hung-over attempt at conversation. Like Miss Truny's Deep-Dish Southern Style Not-So-French Toast, baked with a pecan-praline glaze, or The Nelly Frittata, an egg-white frittata with sausage, chicken, bacon, spanish onions, and red and green peppers. This is actually more delicious than it sounds, even when your stomach is doing loop-de-loops in flight from last night's excesses. Heavy fare like this has a wonderful stabilizing effect. But there's light stuff, too-fried green tomatoes with avocado, a delicious Greek omelet called The Un-Teeny Santorini, and a Belgian waffle topped with bananas, pineapple, mango, blueberries, and whipped cream that goes down like a confection and may even be healthy.

Formerly "Hamburger Mary's," it still sets the standard for hamburger hangouts. The predominantly gay crowd certainly livens the atmosphere.
