This Costa Mesa eatery draws crowds mostly for its breakfast burritos, massive bricks too heavy on the eggs and too light on the sharp Cheddar, and crunchy, greasy hash browns (the kinds of toasted tater ribbons you can build diner empires on) but still damn good. The filling, muy bueno breakfast tacos diverge from the San Antonio-style classic by using corn tortillas instead of flour and bacon instead of shredded beef.
The easy part in figuring out the best burrito in Orange County is narrowing the selection to breakfast burritos, which are not only the best type ever invented, but probably also the best food item invented. What makes the Rooster Café's breakfast burrito the best? First, it stretches the stomach; you can eat this thing at 9 in the morning and make it to dinner without going hungry. But what Rooster is most famous for is the breakfast burritos. Choose either bacon or sausage, and you get a jumble of heaven with cheese and crispy potatoes wrapped in a warm tortilla. Need another reason why this place is so awesome? Every table comes with its own bottle of Tapatio.
Great place to go for breakfast.
i love the Rooster cafe. my personal favorite is their chai tea 1/2 milk 1/2 water. two eggs over easy, brown rice instead of hashbrowns and their meatballs instead of bacon. yummmmy.
