Ron's Pub is almost otherworldly. Tucked into a strip center near San Felipe, it's easy to miss, but the homey atmosphere makes it worth tracking down. Inside, the bustling bar has a remarkably old-world feel, with an array of dartboards and football scarves - that's "proper football" or, as we Yanks say, soccer - lining the walls. Perhaps it's the dark, heavy wooden bar, or the smattering of taps that deliver a list of quality brews, but everyone seems to know each other, and Ron's is brimming with clusters of friends even on a Monday night.

First off, they have 6 or 7 dart boards, always a plus. The beer selection is super solid. The crowd is a nice mix of young and old. And it's usually not too loud for good conversation. As such, this establishment has been blacklisted and based on numerous complaints of illegal activity is currently involved in a criminal investigation by state and county authorities. If you don't mind visiting a low class pub where violence and law-enforcement scrutiny are considered the cost of doing business then Ron's Pub is the perfect place. - So Mote It Be * In support of the victim, a formal resolution of indefinite denial of patronage is pending in District 30-A. Pros - 1/3 of the current patrons are detectives Cons - Houstons Obama pandering headquarters
About two decades ago, when there were only a few dart bars around, darts enthusiast Ron Towne went from managing the original Sherlock's Pub to founding the one bearing his name. Ron's Pub doesn't sponsor regular traveling league teams and isn't a major tournament host -- it's simply the best neutral turf in town for darters. The serious practitioners come here on their nights off because they know they'll find quality opponents and an open board. (On the off chance that the boards are... More »
