Description

Beautiful stone house of a restaurant just down the street from Richardson Browne's other eatery, Richardson's. Rokerij is Dutch for "smokehouse," but this is basically a classy chop shop with plenty of atmosphere. Dim lighting, copper-topped bars, European prints on the walls, and outstanding service make this the sort of place you'd take your boss or that wanna-be supermodel you've been chasing. The fare doesn't quite live up to the digs, which is slightly dispiriting. Still, it's better than Black Angus, so stop your whinin' and eat!

  • 2011 | Best Underground Bar

Behind heavy wood doors and down a dark stairwell, Rokerij exudes the quiet air of a secret club. A fireplace burns even in the middle of the summer, but the cool, dark atmosphere of the place is well suited to the subtle blaze. Named for the Dutch word meaning smokehouse, Rokerij features the menu from nearby Dick's Hideaway, making the pairing of a rare steak and glass of neat whiskey a realizable delight. The corners of the dim bar are suited to quiet conversation, and the bar's close... More »

  • 2007 | BEST FIRST DATE

Call us alcoholics, but we're rarely ready to get to know someone new without a little liquid courage. On the other hand, when we're bothering to go on a first date, we want it to feel romantic and fraught with possibility. The Rokerij, Richardson Browne's snazzy restaurant just off Bethany Home Road, takes care of both problems. The upstairs is newly remodeled and now looks as smart as any place in town, but it's still dark enough to keep things dreamy. And downstairs, the couches in front... More »

  • 2004 | BEST LAMB CHOPS

All apologies to fans of the late ventriloquist Shari Lewis, but we love lamb chops, and not while they're still on the lamb. A lot of places in town make great lamb chops, but these days, you practically have to beg your server to bring you a side of mint jelly when you order them. Or you might have to sneak in your own. But at Richardson Browne's swanky new surf and turf spot Rokerij, no such subterfuge is required. Rokerij's lamb chops come smothered in a glaze of mint jelly sauce, and... More »

    Browne's New Bag

    | Thu, May 06, 2004

I'd been sitting on the fence for the past week about Rokerij, Richardson Browne's classy new chop shop, when I happened to take a look at the fine print on the menu of this stone-and-wood surf-and-turf joint, which reads: "Sorry, we do not provid... More »

Great food! I would decribe it as Tex-Mex with a lot of spice and pure goodness. Awesome wine bar downstairs too with a kick ass happy hour drinks and food. A MUST try if you have'nt already and a great place to take a date (or two ;)
