Description

This rib joint from Iron Maiden drummer and South Florida resident Nicko McBrain feels just about as close to a backyard barbecue as you can get in a restaurant. The food isn't exactly Memphis-style barbecue; rather, it tastes like what you might whip up with some friends huddled around a Webber grill. Ribs are the fall-off-the-bone variety, wet and sweet with sticky barbecue sauce that will leave your fingers tacking to the sides of your beer bottle. Pork and beef brisket are each smoky and firmer in texture and taste amazing on a sandwich made with Texas toast and slathered with creamy coleslaw. Prices are cheap, service is friendly and pierced, and metal from the likes of Iron Maiden and Judas Priest streams constantly throughout the day.

Man, I really wanted to like this place. BBQ, Nicko, Rock Decor and Music. I was hoping it would be great. Sorry, but no. My wife and I have been looking for a great BBQ place here in South Florida to no avail. The best close by is Bubbaloos in Orlando. Anyway, what was wrong at Rock 'n' Roll Ribs? Well, first there is no merchandise. The theme they have and the cool logo would scream merch. The waitress, Kayla, said no such stuff. My wife was excited to find that the pulled pork is served naked, with sauce on the side. She's not a big sauce fan. I was excited to see spare ribs instead of the ubiquitous baby backs everyone serves. I was disappointed to see this was yet another BBQ joint that doesn't sell Greens. Also no Mac and Cheese. These are staples at good BBQ joints. So then the food arrives. What a bad experience. The pork was dry as dust. So dry, my wife (the sauce hater) was dousing it to try to keep from choking. My ribs were slightly burnt and also dry. The sauces ALL were cloyingly sweet. The hot, the tangy and the house. Curiously about the only flavor in the house was sweet. Really one dimensional. What was good? Well, the wife said the fries were the best she'd had in a while. I thought the beans had good flavor even if they did lack in body (they were very thin, as if just doctored pork and beans out of the can heated and not baked). The cole slaw was good (purchased?). Kayla was a cute and personable waitress. I imagine if she is indicative of the wait staff there, amny guys return for them. It can't be the food. I am so bummed. I really wanted to like this place.
