An elegant new wine bar in downtown Webster, Robust offers a wide selection of wines by the bottler or the glass. The list is categorized by the wine's profile - that is, robust or generous reds, crisp or luscious whites - rather than varietal or region, and each dish on the menu is matched to a specific profile or two. That menu features small dishes, most of which are meant to be shared: cheeses, cured meats and flatbreads. Items that sound like traditional entrées (roasted chicken, flatiron steak) are served in small portions.

St. Louis' neighborhoods are gems in their own right: full of history, great people and, as far as Gut Check is concerned, fantastic food. Each week we'll take you into a specific neighborhood and poi... More »
Gut Check loves us some wine. Yesterday was National Wine Day, and let's just say we did the holiday proud. Aside from guzzling glasses of grape, we, on occasion, like to read about wine, too. Imagine... More »
The Veggielante has had it up to here with people bitching that St. Louis restaurants are vegetarian unfriendly. Sure, we'd like to see more restaurants offering more meatless dishes, but there are ex... More »
Of the wine list at Robust Wine Bar, owner and sommelier Stanley Browne says, "[Our] philosophy is to appeal to everyone from the novice to the connoisseur. That's why we have an extensive list -- from wines that are affordable to the Harlan Estates and Bryants and all the price points in between." While you can, if you're so inclined, drop serious coin on a bottle at Robust, you'll also find numerous excellent bottles priced under $60 (we've always been a fan of the Justin cabernet... More »
As St. Louisans we understand that going out for tapas here will never be the same as exploring the storied streets of Spain, the promised land of paella and jamón ibérico and naps. We get it. But the tapas experience is just as much about atmosphere as it is about food, and Webster Groves' Robust Wine Bar has atmosphere in spades. The vibe is stylish but warm and welcoming, and the food's outstanding, whether you opt for traditionally "Spanish" fare -- Cava and chorizo,... More »
Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale,A tale of ladies who lunch,That started from Ladue and Frontenac,And became the Robust bunch.A turkey sandwich was had by all,Side salads on each plate. No one ordered Robust's bread pudding,For they were watching their weight, they were watching their weight.Acoustic music set the mood,No need to wheel and deal. They lingered until the place cleared out,It became a three-hour meal, a three-hour meal.Robust made ordering wines a... Webster Groves might have a reputation as a great place to raise a family, but let's be honest: Sometimes you need to get away from the kids. You don't have to go very far, though. Located at the western end of what passes for Webster's downtown, Robust is the ideal place to enjoy being a grown-up again. The décor is classy, but the vibe is casual. Enjoy a full meal or take a seat at the handsome bar for a glass of wine. The list features a wide range of wines by the glass, which you... More »
Webster Groves might have a reputation as a great place to raise a family, but let's be honest: Sometimes you need to get away from the kids. You don't have to go very far, though. Located at the western end of what passes for Webster's downtown, Robust is the ideal place to enjoy being a grown-up again. The décor is classy, but the vibe is casual. Enjoy a full meal or take a seat at the handsome bar for a glass of wine. The list features a wide range of wines by the glass, which you can sample in three- or six-ounce pours. Get together with some friends and try one of the one-wine flights — or, if your kids have been really rotten, try all of the different wine flights by yourself. Whatever you order, revel in this opportunity to chat with a neighbor about something besides SpongeBob. At least until the baby sitter calls.
Great atmosphere, awesome wine selection, and really good menu items. Food portions are smaller, but perfect to order a bunch for the table and split.
Finally, after several rolls of Oscar Meyer passed as tapas (Modesto painfully comes to mind)...a nice place, Robust. What struck us the most was how nice they laid out the wines with their own scale system vs. the usual pretentiously pompous fashion of doing it by region and or 'score'. Robust has its own number scale regardless of region, etc. Love the concept. Be a little adventurous and try their wine flights. Get the sampler of the tapas and you won't be disappointed. While you're at it...get also some of their cheese. The atmosphere is wonderful for a Saturday lunch outside and I just had to deal with the three girls over that were fantasizing about joining the Peace Corps (do they know they can't take their Audis and Minis with them?)
