  • 2001 | Best High Tea

Afternoon tea is as ritualistic a pleasure as anything out of Imperial Japan, and the Ritz-Carlton has preserved all of the meal's myriad gratifications down to the smallest detail. The locale, in the hotel's Lobby Lounge, is an opulent, pale-rose setting of antique oils, orchid blossoms, and crystal chandeliers. On one recent rainy day the gray-marble hearth was crackling away while a harpist strummed appropriately gentle sounds. The tea itself, brewed from top-flight Taylors of Harrogate... More »

  • 2000 | Best Patio Dining

Outdoor dining in wind-swept, fog-shrouded San Francisco When it's accomplished amongst the shrub-buffered alfresco-ness of the Ritz-Carlton's garden courtyard adjoining the Terrace Restaurant, nestled on the sunny eastern slopes of Nob Hill, you betcha! There's a lot of cool, funky boutique hotels that have opened around San Francisco, but when I come to town I like to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city and book a room at the Ritz-Carlton. Convenient location in Chinatown and the great service and comfort that you would expect from the chain. If you are in the mood for an amazing high-end meal, make a reservation for dinner in the Dining Room.
