Whenever we sit down to eat Ecuadorian, we're drawn to two things: the ceviche and a hearty soup called caldo de bola rellena. A matzoh-like dumpling made with mashed plantain, flecked with meat and egg and sitting in a thick, garlicky broth, the version of caldo at this café is top notch. You'll also find yucca, green beans, cabbage, onions, generous chunks of beef, and cilantro that floats on top and binds the tastes together. The dining room is notable for a life-size statue of a boxer, wearing yellow trunks and with dukes raised.
