For a huge, cheap meal keep your eye on the daily special soups: Sunday it's sancocho de gallina, a cilantro-accented chicken broth crammed with potatoes, yuca, and plantain, sided with an even bigger plate of fricassee chicken, rice, and salad, all for a few dollars. Also featured are outsize Colombian tamales wrapped in banana leaves and stuffed with meat and vegetables, shrimp in creole sauce, fried pork chops with rice and excellent beans, and, of course, arepas, the rotund white corn cakes that are a national signature. For dessert, the Lemon Ice King of Corona is just down the block.
