After years of missteps, our most famous Swedish-Ethiopian chef, Marcus Samuelsson, has finally hit his stride, offering a menu featuring a very wacky combination of international influences, including Swedish and Ethiopian (naturally!), but adding Mexican, regional American, and soul food grace notes--this is still Harlem, after all. The food tends to be fantastic, and a little cheaper than in some of his now-defunct more-downtown establishments. We loved the fried chicken, with a glaze that made it seem almost Korean, and the yam-oozing donuts for dessert. And how"s this for fusion: the Ethiopian street snack call sambusas paired with a dipping sauce featuring Mexican tomatillos.
