How do you know Chef Jesse Schenker is serious about food? Just take a look at his ink, including a Japanese knife and meaty crepinette tattooed on his forearm. The restaurant is a bit more subdued. It sits on a cute corner in the West Village with white window frames providing views of passersby on Greenwich Street. Spare wood tables and tea lights give the place a warm feeling, perfect for casual dates and a night out with friends. The menu is contemporary American, divided up into snacks and plates, with the option to share among the table, order for yourself or try the chef's five-course tasting menu ($75). Lobster risotto, crispy sweetbreads, pork belly served with rock shrimp and roasted turnips; they're all good choices, as is the charcuterie plate and side of duck fat-fried fingerling potatoes. Per Se alum Christina Lee makes the desserts including a "s'more" made with graham cracker ice cream and toasted marshmallow.—Keith Wagstaff
