Ann Gentry, owner of organic, vegetarian restaurant Real Food Daily, runs two locations in Santa Monica and West Hollywood. The eatery uses filtered and purified water and dishes prepared with blackened tempeh, seitan, quinoa, tofu, cashew cheese and almond-based products. Popular orders include the supreme burrito, “not-chos,” chocolate pudding and gluten-free, peanut-butter chocolate cupcakes.

    Real Food Daily's been L.A.'s go-to vegan spot for more than a decade. Its carob-mint cookie remains a rock-solid sweet-tooth-sating standby. It's kind of dry but sweet and substantial, and it totally hits the spot when you're on the go, having a low-blood-sugar moment, and really, really itching for something baked and bready. —Dani Katz

    I have brought people who have no interest in "healthy food" or vegetarian eating and they have all been surprised and loved their meals. The team behind RFD has managed to make vegan meals taste like all of your meat-filled favorites. I am a huge fan of the TV Dinner (you would swear that tempeh is meatloaf) and the Salisbury Seitan (served with a dairy-free Caesar). My absolute favorite, however, is their chocolate cake (when they have it) - it is wheat and sugar free - a little denser than what you might be used to, but a fabulously healthy option when you just gotta have that chocolate fix.
