Description

One of the world's best Cantonese restaurants, right here on the border of Chinatown and North Beach. An illustrated menu makes it easy to order, but seafood lovers shouldn't miss the salt-and-pepper crab or the fresh shrimp pulled from the tanks and simply steamed with lots of garlic. We love the Secret Sauce Beef and the brisket cooked with turnips in a clay pot. Peking duck fanciers will be happy here, too. Open 365 days a year.

You can't get any fresher seafood than the crustaceans and fish pulled from the big tanks in the downstairs dining room at R&G, where the creatures swim around as d�cor until they're plucked out for your delectation. The lightly battered, disjointed salt-and-pepper crab is a don't-miss specialty. Fresh-steamed shrimp are served split, barely cooked through, and bathed in garlic. The only time we ever dreamed about food was when we dreamt we were eating the crunchy prawns with candied walnuts and mayonnaise from the R & G Lounge. The food's terrific here, especially the stuff from the fish tanks that are the venue's dominant motif: roasted crab, batter-fried prawns, spot shrimp cooked two ways, whole steamed fish redolent of garlic and ginger.
