In this 1,000-room hotelas previous incarnation it had some 2,500 rooms (one of which Joe DiMaggio used to live in), one of the largest barber shops in the world (with 20 manicurists on hand), and its own private power station (Americaas largest) in its sub-basement. After being shuttered in 1972, reopened in 1994, and bought by the Ramada Group in 2000, the New Yorker is now desirable for budget-conscious business travelers due to itas proximity to Penn Station and the Javits Center and its convenient on-site business center.
