One of Santa Monica's longest-standing diners, Rae's opened in 1958 and has been slinging out simple, inexpensive food ever since. With its booth-lined tables and counter seating, the diner has been used in many films. Popular at breakfast, they serve the standard eggs, potatoes, and pancakes, but also offer lunch and dinner including country-fried steak, sandwiches, salads and soups.

In the tradition of greasy spoons, Rae's is a little funky, but that's part of the charm. The pancakes are the best I have ever eaten (they must put something special in that batter)! If you must have eggs with your breakfast, get the 2 + 2 + 2 (2 eggs how you like 'em, 2 'cakes, and 2 pieces of bacon or sausage). The waitstaff are all super friendly and remember regulars (Tony is the man). Be sure to bring cash because they don't take credit cards (but not much cash, 'cuz it's cheap!).
