Formerly known as CD Collector, this friendly neighborhood record store changed its focus when it changed its name. Now Radio-Active Records, the store has a wide selection of new and used vinyl and a sampling of CDs, instead of vice versa. Along with that change, Radio-Active has more than doubled its size. The new area in the back houses rows of vinyl and a stage. Local bands and out-of-towners with indie cred find their way to the small performance space almost every week. What will a show cost you? Nada. They're always free. Show your thanks by picking up a record. After all, you'll be hard-pressed to find something that doesn't suit your tastes as the selection ranges from current music to electro to rare grooves. PsssÂ… make good with the staff. A lot of the good stuff is in the back.
We saw you. We saw you standing outside Radio-Active Records, as early as 2 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, 2013. We saw you panic a little when we walked into the store from the back door before it was t... More »

When it comes to needs versus wants, we at New Times find it easy to draw the line in most places. Shelter, clothing, cable -- these things are great, but stick a stack of records next to a cabl... More »
Purchasing music at Radio-Active Records still feels good. Unlike stores that would be just as happy to sell you a flat-screen television or a Twilight paperback, this spot is where everyone -- buyers and sellers alike -- is all about the records. Stow a pile of choice discs behind the front counter until payday if you must, but it's likely that these rare jazz, psychedelic, or even bluegrass vinyl finds are gonna make it tough to leave empty-handed. Add the unmatched selection of... More »

Whether music is literally your hot, hot sex (Cansei de Ser Sexy -- go ahead and Google it) or you're the one trying to remember that one band with that one song, it's almost impossible to walk out of Radio-Active Records empty-handed. Crate-diggers and collectors belong in the enormous backroom, where there awaits a surprisingly undusty stock of wax nostalgia that includes rock, jazz, R&B, salsa, and a Nancy Sinatra platter on the wall that'll make eyes with you every damned time.... You walk into a record store and comfort is an immediate issue. Go into one of those supposedly hip stores and you get someone behind the counter with his nose sky-high; ask a simple question and he all but laughs. Fuck those places -- that's why you need to know Radio-Active Records. It's not just that Radio-Active has a wide selection of new and used CDs. They have employees who treat customers like friends. Plus, they're really making their mark by specializing in vinyl, ranging from... More »
