For two decades, Racines has been the meeting spot of first and last resort in Denver. Neighbors and power brokers, college kids and yuppies -- it doesn't matter who you are or where you're coming from, there's room for you at Racines. People flock here for breakfasts both hearty and healthy, for the margaritas, for the simple, comforting menu of Mexi-American standards and diner classics served late into the evening. The current incarnation, which opened in May 2004, is bigger and better than ever -- and comes complete with a parking garage.
At 12:01 on May 1, Colorado's Civil Unions Act took effect. And to commemorate the new law,Racines is offering same-sex couples celebrating their new legal status a complimentary 187 ml bottle of Korb... More »
Start counting your pennies -- and your calories. Dining Out for Life is a week from today, and you'll definitely want to dine out early and often on Thursday, April 25. Over 300 Denver area restaur... More »
It's National Margarita Day, and Racines is featuring three new cocktails in honor of the occasion. Keep reading for the drink menu, and if you know of any other margarita-related celebrations, feel ... More »
Thanksgiving is not over -- at least, not at Denver delis that serve sandwiches featuring all the trimmings of the traditional meal a combo traditionally known as the Pilgrim. While some people are st... More »
Pizza Republica, Rio Grande and Larkburger have begun donation programs to aid victims of the High Park, Waldo Canyon and Flagstaff fires and the firefighters trying to contain them. And here are two ... More »
The winner and still the chomp: Sibling restaurants Racines and Dixons are known as go-to spots where you can start your day with a power breakfast and end it with a powerful cocktail. But our favorite item on the vast (and differing) menus at both is the nachos: a mountain of food that's more than a meal, particularly if you add chicken or steak. They're carefully constructed of beans (refried or black), lots of cheese, quality chips and good toppings (including plenty of pickled... More »
Sibling restaurants Racines and Dixons are great places for casual breakfasts, power breakfasts, late-night snacks and the last drink of the night. But we're particularly partial to their nachos -- the biggest, boldest plate of nachos in town, a piping-hot heap of food for under ten bucks. You can customize them with black or refried beans, subtract the sour cream or guac, throw on more jalapeños, add meat (flavorful steak or tender chicken), or douse them with the house salsa or... The power brokers at Racines can be tough to spot, because they look just like everyone else. But they're right there -- elbows on the tables, with green chile on their khakis and their sleeves rolled up -- having breakfast just like the neighbors, the college kids, the pols and the yuppies who surround them every morning at this funky, easygoing bastion of good taste and big plates. Racines offered the top power breakfast for decades until it had to leave its old home on Bannock; it's... More »
Someone should do a business-school thesis on how many big decisions have been made and how many million-dollar deals closed in the casual, funky Racines and its younger LoDo sibling, Dixons. The number is probably pretty high. For twenty years now, Racines has attracted movers and shakers, lawyers and lobbyists, artists and neighbors -- and while at first glance it might not seem like the sort of place where futures are being negotiated, all you have to do is look a little closer at the... At most restaurants, where there's smoke, there's ire. And even at Racines during the first six hours of the day, smokers can light up only in the welcoming bar area. But starting at 2 p.m. -- and all day on Sundays -- Racines gives smokers some room of their own by turning the comfortable back area of the restaurant, with its warm lighting and sink-into-them swivel chairs, into a smoking section where ciggy heads can light up, eat a great salad (filled with heart-healthy veggies) and enjoy... A popular breakfast, lunch and dinner spot, Racines has long been known for its baked goods, especially the brownies. But lately we've become addicted to its big, fluffy cinnamon rolls, a quintessential version of the old favorite: light, soft, swirled with cinnamon, and with just the right number of raisins to ensure that you get a plump, sweet one every few mouthfuls. And then there's the icing on the cake, a super-sweet slick that turns into a sugary crust around the edges and pushes an... More »
Big diverse menu but not somewhere to go if you're looking for an adventurous culinary experience.

They're carefully constructed so that the gooey nacho goodness goes all the way to the bottom of the platter, and the ratio of toppings to chips ensures that the last bite will be as good as the first.
One of my favorite spots for brunch, especially on the patio. Lots of different foods
