Yes, it's a chain. And yes, RA Sushi is striving to make sushi, and other Japanese fare, "accessible" to a broad swath of America by keeping down prices and pumping up sugar and fat. But leave your worries at home, because the fancy rolls and Asian appetizers and entrees include many tasty and well-put-together dishes, partially explaining why RA has done well across the country in an already saturated sushi market. Katzu, Asian barbecue, noodles, potsticker soup, and specialties such as a "tootsy maki" roll and pineapple cheese wontons draw raves. That these dishes are served by a bright, lively, and well-trained staff along with a menu of fancy cocktails in a vividly trendy space takes the experience well past merely OK.
