The folks at Qudos understand the art of relaxation. They also understand that the sidewalk is no place for a smoker, especially those of the cigar variety. Qudos has two heated smoking patios, each with comfy chairs and smoke eaters. Inside, soft brown overstuffed chairs and couches surround small tables in a space with nothing much on the wall except for one flat-screen TV and a screen behind the bar for dancers in silhouette. Downtown suit-and-tie types tend to hide out or conduct business in this mostly masculine spot that encourages upscale gratification.
I know the whole cigar bar thing used to be a fad a while ago, but I think it's starting to take off again. This is a new hot spot.
Be late night important with your posse. Leather chairs and specially designed 'outdoor' rooms for cigaring make this even a winter-wonderland. Crazy silhouette dancers above the bar. Fun!
I went to Qudos on Good Friday eve but it was not such a good experience. I admit I truly enjoyed myself while there however after ordering two glasses of merlot (house wine) I received my tab that reflected $9.00 a glass. The menu clearly stated house wine $5.00 and when I ordered I simply asked for a glass of merlot. How did the waitress know which high priced wine to serve me? After reviewing the menu there wasn't even a $9.00 glass on it. I had ordered two so my total for the wine was $18.00. The owner advised that the waitress would have to take the error from her tip. I had purchased several other items aside from the wine so my total bill was $37.00. I begrudgingly accepted and signed and received my $8.00 back in cash. Feeling that the waitress had made an honest and probably inexperienced mistake I gave her a tip nonetheless. Several days later I looked at my on line bank account and found that Qudos had debited $57.00 from my account. I was obviously less than pleased and rightfully so called to speak with the owner. I specifically asked for Dave as I had enjoyed meeting and conversing with him the evening I was there. My first call I was told he was in a meeting and would call me back. Didn't hear from him. I called back a few days later and he did come to the phone and advised that he would have to contact the credit agency to issue back the credit. (no apologies given) He advised that he would call me back the next day with the resolution. Approximately 5 days later I had still not heard anything. I called again today and again asked to speak with Dave. The woman that answered the phone came back and asked who was calling. When I told her my name she said she thought she had recognized my name and apologized if I thought she sounded rude but Dave was on the phone and would call me back shortly. (hmmmm get the picture?) No return call and left with the feeling that my little $20.00 overcharge was my problem and he had no intention of rectifying the situation. (which by the way would have been very easy to do). I still have my receipt and fully intend on getting my money back and never returning to patronize this establishment and would not recommend them to anyone. Honestly, I am very disappointed as I had looked forward to going there again but feel that I would not waste my money nor my time. Apparently my little $20.00 is not worth their time to bother with. It is glaringly obvious that customer service is not a top priority to either one of the owners nor do they seem to really care. I am a hugh advocate of supporting our black owned businesses however it has been my experience with many below par treatment and a niggerish attitude when it comes to accommodating their black clientèle that is unless your name or face is recognizable. A very elementary lesson in business is to never judge a book by its cover because you really don't know who your dealing with or how they can effect your future success. Kansas City is a very small town. 6 degrees of separation here is more like 3 degrees. (The word is out!)
