Description

Even if you don't like pool, Tempe's Q & Brew still offers plenty of ways to spend your quarters. Vintage pinball machines greet you at the door, including a primo Williams Deluxe Baseball unit from 1957, while a CD jukebox and bar-top touch-screen video games are also available. Pool remains the establishment's bread and butter, however, and the Q plays host to league nights and offers $3 all-you-can play deals starting at noon on its tables, which include plenty of regulation-size nine-footers. The hall opened way back in 1968 on Mill Avenue, before moving to its current location in the far corner of the same strip mall that houses the Yucca Tap Room. A smoking patio and a plush bar stocked with liquor and draft beer round out this dive bar favorite.

It's resolutely hipster-proof, the kind of place you go for a real game of pool (a couple of local leagues meet there), not some sort of ironic Portlandia skit. Which isn't to say that the place is shady. The staff... More »

  • 2011 | Best Pool Hall

You have to hand it to the Q & Brew. In all its years (the hall opened in 1968 before moving to its current location in 1987), the joint has never catered to anyone other than pool-shooting folks, resisting the urge to get gentrified by hipsters or hepcats looking for the next "authentic" place to hang out. "The Q," as it's lovingly called around town, hosts league nights and $3 all-you-can-play tables starting at noon. It also features a killer smoking patio, where you can practice your... More »
