The wacky French design shop Pylones picked Manhattan for its first shops outside of Paris, and since then itas been a classic case of opposites attract. Sullen New Yorkers and embittered tourists alike have taken to the storeas whimsical, hypercheery offerings of rainbow-striped toasters, fish-shaped lighters, and purses fashioned to resemble tea pots.
