What might be the most fun restaurant around to pronounce (poo-POO-sur-Eah) is also a great spot for pupusas. Fat dough disks are stuffed with all manner of savory fillings and then cooked on a griddle. The result is an ooey, gooey wonder. Pupuseria El Rincon's stand is located inside Mercado Central and is worth exploring, serving hearty comfort food for only about $3 a plate.
Pupusas are, incomprehensibly, an unsung feature of Central American cuisine, placing somewhere along the lines of a distant fourth--neck-and-neck with tamales--on a list top-heavy with dishes of Mexican origin: quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and of course King Taco.
