There's hardly anything on the planet that makes us happier than the banter and laughing that comes from the infectiously riotous kitchen at Pupusas Sabor Hispano, a roadside shack in Boulder that turns out the most fantastic pupusas. The made-to-order griddled spheres of masa, enveloping beans, molten white cheese, chicharron and loroco, a Salvadoran spice, are the culinary gods' gift to Boulderites. Awesome salsa bar, too.
It's so sad when a great restaurant loses it greatness. Our first experience was superb - yummy food, real plates, margarita glasses and good service. Our family returned only to be disappointed time and again, well we won't be giving any more chances to this place and its failing management. On a HOT day this summer 2012 we had to ask twice to get some water for our table.I mean we were all running in the place to escape the heat,we were hot and thirsty.
They NEVER have enough servers, ugly marred plastic plates and simple glasses now adorn dirty tables. The food doesn't even resemble the menu.We all ordered different plates and got the same dish water style 'green pork chili'swimming with a dump of grey beans and then we got up to get our own salsa's and chips three times !!
The carnitas and everything else seemed as if it was from LEFTOVERS from the night before(I know,I cook from scratch and I'm married to a Mexican)And we never received the second margarita that had to be ordered in person at the bar-by getting up from our table!
Then after our horrible service and food we were charged for a cheap ass lemonade refill and charged for the chips and salsa WE had to get ourselves. We spent $90 on lame ass food and terrible service.NO MORE
From the moment Pupusas Sabor Hispano opened five years ago in a dilapidated roadside shack in north Boulder, the citizens of the People's Republic clamored for more. They clamored so hard, in fact, that last fall owner Nancy Reed shuttered the original Pupusas and relocated to a bigger, more contemporary spot across the street. But while the new space is larger and loftier, the pupusas -- orbs of masa stuffed with everything from fiddlehead ferns and Anaheim chiles to chicharrones,... More »
