Previously Secret Information Recommended

  • Description

Comedians are “always depressed,” we hear. After we’re done fervently hoping it isn’t true, we wonder how “funny” and “depressing” ever came to be separate categories, especially post-Mitch Hedberg. At Previously Secret Information, they aren’t, sort of. The show is one of San Francisco’s excellent storytelling series (Porchlight! Mortified! Bawdy! Etc.!), in which people stand onstage and riff, having been semi-rehearsed. The people here are often stand-up comics, humor writers, or just “funny,” and their mission is to tell mean, bad, horrifying stories to make you laugh. Tonight hear Paul Myers tell “Ringo, Django, and My Dad.” Rachel McDowell frightens with “Panic in Paranormal Placerville.” Another Rachel (Swan) confesses “I’m a Closet Heterosexual.” Series co-producer Joe Klocek delivers “To Love and Lose in L.A.”
