A yuppified wine bar/restaurant smack in the middle of one of downtown's most decidedly ungentrified sections? Like the place's chief server and chef (who moonlight as, respectively, a world record-holding freediving champion and her trainer), Premier is different but a real winner. Wines are numerous, thoughtfully chosen, and almost unbelievably priced. Many wonderful bottles are only ten to fifteen dollars, and corkage, for those wanting to hang and drink in the elegant yet comfortable loungelike dining room, is just $6.54. Hungry drinkers will find a small but pleasing selection of soups, entrees, and desserts at all hours, plus sandwiches and salads at lunch or international tapaslike plates at night. Don't worry about the "club" part of the place's name. Memberships (ranging from ten dollars to $100 per person) earn one free bottles of wine, discounts to special tastings, and other fun perks, but the place is actually open to all.
