The name fits perfectly: posh suits the tony Clayton locale, the preppy-dressed, baby-boom clientele and the narrow brick-and-ivy courtyard (great for outdoor eating during summer months). And Nosh because this is real-deal, New York deli food: piles of pastrami, corned beef or chopped liver smeared with slaw and kraut, sandwiched on rye with a nice dill pickle on the side. If your tastes skew goy, there's a tuna melt, a "Garden Gobbles" sandwich tantamount to Thanksgiving dinner on bread and chichi soups such as white bean chicken chili and lobster bisque. Service is friendly and speedy -- and you can wash it all down with an honest-to-goodness root beer float.
Last time we noshed at the Posh, a kindly older woman with snow-white hair, black eyeglasses and the most fetching smile took our order. She looks as if she's been around forever, which is about as long as the Posh Nosh has maintained its reputation as Clayton's classic deli.
