Though chef-owner Sara Jenkins is known as an East Village pasta maven at Porchetta and Porsena, her playfully complex sandwiches shine through at her all-day wine bar. Hungry diners can enjoy delicate bites of surryano ham, pickles, and cantaloupe melon-butter on stecca (a/k/a Jim Lahey’s no-knead, shattering bread) or an equally dainty little gem salad with pickled herring, Grana Padano, and croutons. Those with love for pimiento cheese must try Jenkins’s seemingly-simple grilled cheese, which fills buttery Pullman bread with an oozing mix of cheddar, mayo, and spicy kimchi. The tiny space offers only a handful of countertop seats, so takeout may be a good mid-day option.
