Description

Polk Street Pub has this cool nookish location in the Houston Pavilions that makes it perfect for visiting before or after the nearby House of Blues. In fact, it's probably better to pre- and post-game here than at HOB, but that's your call, Uncle Moneybags. Polk Street has a sturdy lunch and dinner menu, and try to gorge you both times. (We think they have a government grant to give out waffle fries.) Parking becomes a hassle on show nights, but during quieter times the pub is a worthy downtown stop. Be sure to order up on e of their signature drinks, the Houston Tycoon, made from Maker's Mark, orange juice, ginger ale and orange liqueur. After a few too many, you may try to buy the building.

I couldn't help but notice how many of the restaurants at Houston Pavilions were big chains: House of Blues, the McCormick & Schmick's and Mia Bella. Polk Street Pub might be one of the few places in the Pavilions that's not a chain. I sat down at... More »
