There's nothing fancy here -- the bar is small, and the decor consists mainly of promotional posters from beer companies. But the food is good and so's the company, especially on Thursdays. That's steak night, and the menu couldn't be more straightforward: two steaks, two salads, two baked potatoes and a pitcher of beer for $27, or $13.50 if you are rolling solo. Owner P.J. Mastro himself barbecues the man-sized steaks.

If karaoke makes you queasy -- that is, if you don't relish the thought of standing onstage with a giant room full of strangers staring you down while you butcher "Rollin' in the Deep" -- then what you need to do is gather ten of your closest friends and head to PJ's for karaoke, which starts promptly at 9 p.m. every Friday. Your pals can sit on the old couch in front of the stage and cheer you on, and they'll probably take up about half the space in the bar's intimate upstairs... More »
Finding a cheap steak dinner can be dicey -- if the price is right, the meal usually isn't. Small tough cuts of meat that have been sitting under a warming light for an hour or so ain't a bargain, no matter how inexpensive they might be. PJ's Sports Bar, on West Gray between Taft and Montrose, has a more appetizing alternative. Every Thursday is Steak Night at the bar, and the menu is straightforward: two steaks, two salads, two baked potatoes and a pitcher of beer, all for $20. P.J. Mastro... More »
