Pizza Port is a pizzeria in San Clemente that, in a city filled with them, makes their mark with gigantic slices and a friendly atmosphere. While taking the kids to their favorite pizza place is well and good, sometimes the priority is a quality beer to go with Mom and Dad's dinner. Few pizza restaurants brew their own beers as tasty as Pizza Port, which won our editorial 2010 Best Beer Selection. This San Diego-based brewery/pizzeria features guest beers as well as in-house brews to pair with a selection of flavor-boosted topping combinations in the thick, chewy, gourmet, all-American style of pizza. They also sell white pizza. There's no tomato sauce; it's brushed with garlic olive oil, and the pizzeria-standard mozzarella is punctuated with dollops of surprisingly good ricotta cheese. The only thing that would make it better is vegetables--either sautéed spinach or slices of good fresh tomato would be authentic and awesome.

Great beer, great pizza, good prices, and fabulous atmosphere. Also try Carlsbad and Solano Beach locations in San Diego.
Siblings Vince and Gina Marsaglia bought a struggling Solana Beach pizza joint in 1987 and put what they call a San Diego twist to the menu with their "anti-wimpy" gourmet pizzas. Vince also took advantage of spare space in the storage area to dabble in home brewing. The grub-and-grog combination has proven so winning that Pizza Port went on to open three more locations, including one in San Clemente in 2003. That same year, the original Pizza Port was named Small Brewpub of the... More »
