One of America's first pizza-parlor chains, Pizza Hut was started by Dan and Frank Carney in Wichita, Kansas in 1958. Its original "red roof" locations were dine-in family restaurants, some of which even served beer. Over the years, however, in St. Louis and other markets, the original sit-down locations have been largely replaced by take-out restaurants specializing in home delivery. Now owned by food industry behemoth Yum! Brands and having reached such critical mass that it once designed a "space pizza" that was eaten by a Russian cosmonaut high above the earth, Pizza Hut augments its traditional pizza offerings by borrowing from other cuisines—thus, its P'Zone menu, the chain's version of a calzone with different kinds of pizza toppings stuffed into a hot pocket of baked dough. P'Zones, available in five different combos and one make-your-own version, have been joined now by the sub-sandwich-hybrid, the P'Zolo., along with various pasta offerings.
