It's all about the homemade No-Bean Chili, made daily from scratch, at this more-popular-by-the-day eatery. Which isn't to say that people don't come from miles around for the Cheese and Potato Pierogies, served every Wednesday (turn up early-the line starts practically right after lunch). Willy's is also famous for a delicious gourmet hotdog, cooked up fresh every day with lots of other one-of-a-kind foods, all with that special Pittsburgh touch! Other specialties include Barbecued Pulled Pork, Steel City Sliders, and delicious made-fresh salads that accompany pretty much everything on the menu. Delicious.
For a taste of Pittsburgh by way of the Merchant Square Antique Mall in Chandler, we present the Wild Willy, a glorious gut-buster of a dog courtesy of ex-Pittsburgher Randy Walters. Starting with a quarter-pound, all-beef dog from Nathan's tucked into a sesame bun, chipped ham (a Steel City staple) sautéed in butter is piled on next, with mounds of fresh-grated cheddar cheese to follow for a marvelous mess of deliciousness you'll need a fork to eat. Pittsburgh Willy's has great hot dogs at great prices, and on Wednesdays (and I hear some weekends) Pittsburgh Willy's has pierogi night. These are amazing, homemade potato and cheese pierogi, smothered in butter and onions, and they just melt in your mouth! The pasta is slightly chewy, and they are perfectly stuffed with filling. An order of 6 with a hunk of kielbasa and a soda will only set you back $6.50, and just the pierogi is an even more ridiculous $5.00. You can also get the pierogi to go for 75 cents a piece.
