Don't get us wrong-the pizza at Pino's is sublime: crisp, doughy crusts topped with tangy marinara and fresh ingredients of your choice (we ask for extra cheese and anchovies when we go, but that's just us). But we're mad for the Greek Salad here. It's huge and tasty, stuffed with flavor from fresh lettuces, feta cheese, and kalamata olives. A big handful of shredded mozzarella on top, and a fresh-baked side of homemade bread makes this the best lunch or dinner on the block. But don't let that be your only starter-everyone who's ever had them swears by Pino's meatballs, either as a side to their many delicious pasta dishes or as an hors d'oeuvre. Hot and spicy, they're the real deal, straight from Roma!

It's lunchtime, you're in CenPho, and you need a slice. Stat. There is no shortage of choices, but if you ask us, there really is only one choice: this bustling little bistro at First Ave and Thomas, brought to you by one Pino Martnino, an Italian émigré who came to the Valley several years ago. Martnino features a nice array of signature pizzas -- and they are excellent -- but what brings us back again and again is the build-your-own slice option. At about $2.50 a... More »
Lucky for us, Pino Martnino, owner and prince of pies at Pino's Pizza Al Centro, left his home in Basilicata, Italy, and came to the Valley to find (and marry) his true love, Lucia. If it weren't for her, we'd be missing out on this friendly neighborhood pizza joint (which the two of them own and run) and on Pino's tight but tasty menu of Italian- and New York-style pies featuring his thin, flaky, and deliciously sweet crust. Choose from specialties like the garlicky white pizza, pasta pizza... More »
