Pinche Taqueria opened on Wilton Drive in early 2012, another New York City transplant to land in South Florida. While the New York locations (there are two in Nolita) pride themselves on offering authentic Mexican food, the Wilton Manors outpost quickly learned that wasn't what the neighborhood wanted. Diners here shunned traditional, spicy dishes in favor of Tex-Mex items like fajitas, so the kitchen adjusted its menu accordingly. “We still have elote; we still have the homemade guacamole,” says co-owner Stephanie Lee, “but now we have a cheeseburger taco.” As of late 2012, the kitchen was in transition, with fish tacos too fishy and the enticing-sounding lamb tacos with meat that was crumbly and dry. But a new chef, Ron Kerr of Bite Gastrotruck, had just taken over, and things were hopefully on the upswing. In any case, the front of the house was amazing (“Tell me what you want, tell me what you need,” said a perky server), and both the margaritas ($6, with house-made sour mix) and the people-watching (it's Wilton Manors) couldn't be beat.
