Description

Blame it on Rio, or São Paulo, or the rain forests, or whatever -- the Brazilians know how to live right. And so much has already been said about this particular North Miami Brazilian eatery and its scrumptious menu of gastronomic delights. The restaurant, which is named for the cut of rump roast called a picanha, has done justice to the former home of Mark's Place, Mark Militello's nationally recognized shrine to New World cuisine. Indeed the eatery has become successful with both Brazilians and the uninitiated alike, in part due to delights such as its meaty linguincinha sausages and rich prawns sautéed in palm oil and coconut milk. And in addition to executive chef Edson Milto's traditional but still exotic feijoada (served weekends), the Picanha menu offers plenty of adventure. The same can be said of the restaurant's festive atmosphere. After dinner you can sip the best caipirinhas in town as you samba into the night accompanied by live bands (call for music details).

  • 2003 | BEST BRAZILIAN RESTAURANT

This establishment again reaps kudos (for the third year in a row) for its winning combination of traditional cuisine (with a good selection of fish for the noncarnivores in your crowd), festive atmosphere, and dangerously delicious caipirinhas. Get down with your samba self during the live music and dance shows on Friday and Saturday nights (Picanha's hosts karaoke nights on Thursdays). During the week it's dinner only. Weekends they open the doors at noon to those who come for a leisurely... More »

So much has been said about this North Miami eatery and its scrumptious menu of gastronomic delights (including what we said in "Best of Miami" last year, when it also took this award). It has done justice to the former home of Mark's Place, Mark Militello's nationally recognized shrine to New World cuisine. In addition to executive chef Edson Milto's traditional but still exotic feijoada (served weekends), the Picanha menu offers plenty of adventure. The same can be said of the restaurant's... More »

  • 2001 | Best Brazilian Restaurant

When Picanha's opened a couple of years ago in the former Tark's, which was attached to a Dairy Queen, we thought it would be another restaurant serf, dredging the lower realm of the dining public for customers. We're not ashamed to admit we were wrong about this honest Brazilian eatery, which is named for the cut of rump roast called a pincanha. Indeed the eatery was so successful with both Brazilians and the uninitiated alike that it recently took its meaty linguincinha sausages and rich... More »
