Description

Phoenix New Times' Description

Quite literally a home away from home, this trendy spot occupies the historic Farish House located in the heart of the downtown Phoenix arts district. Indie rockers and artist folks always seem to find their way to this popular spot for a break from the monthly First Friday madness or on a Sunday evening to mix and mingle amidst the vintage atmosphere while hepcat DJs spin up their record collections. Run by renowned restaurateurs Matt and Erenia Pool, the tavern features a lengthy list of 45 different craft and specialty brews in bottles and an assortment of regional varieties on tap -- including the Four Peaks-created honey brown house beer -- and a rotating seasonal selection for those that like to change it up. Not a beer drinker? Not a problem, as more than 20 wines are in stock, and the menu is filled with the Pool's quirky take on bar snacks and small plates, including a grilled cheese sammy filled with fontina and gruyere.

Try the Grilled Cheese and Tomato Soup! Grilled cheese panini-style, with melted cheese and a crispy crust, with homemade San Marzano tomato soup - it's one of Michele Laudig's 100 Favorite Dishes!

  • Andrew K. on 10/06/11

The much-vaunted tomato soup is made with stock and is not vegetarian, FYI. It *is* delicious.

  • Darrell B. on 08/04/10

The atmosphere is priceless. The grilled cheese with tomato soup is highly recommended!
