Phoenix New Times's Description
Not so very mysterious, this 18-room former adobe hacienda near South Mountain Park is packed with Southwestern antiquities and is open for tours.
Tips from foursquare
This unique building was built in 1930 by Boyce Luther Gulley for his daughter, Mary. It's built from a wide range of recycled materials. Electricity and plumbing weren't added until 1992.
I miss Mary Lou. The tour guides are passionate, and have a wealth of knowledge about Mary Lou, her father, and the place. If you are visiting Phoenix, this is a must go!
Built for a daughter who longed for a castle more permanent than those built in the sand at the beach, Mystery Castle is a wondrous work of folk-art architecture.
