  • Back in August of 2001, long before craft beer sank its jagged little teeth into the hearts of trend-setting hipsters and fixed-gear riding brocavores across the country, a little brick building called the Sonora Brewhouse opened its doors for people to enjoy cold pints of Sonoran Brewery’s locally crafted beer. Five years later, Uwe Boer came a long and started brewing beer at the...

  • It's hard to miss: a giant, neon-trimmed steer's head, towering over Van Buren Street and slugged with the goofball legend, "Let's Eat!"

Bill Johnson's Big Apple is one of only a few notable restaurants that have stuck around long enough to become part of our town's history (see main story for more). The Big Apple — which refers not to New York City, but to the late Bill...

    10/26/12

The name of My Mother's Restaurant would lead you to expect home-style food, and you'd be correct. Some of the dishes are hit-or-miss (not a fan of their meatloaf) but some are outstanding - they make a great pizza, f'rinstance. The slices of pie you get for dessert are ludicrously huge, and they have Trivial Pursuit cards on the table if you run out of...
