Republic Ramen & Noodles
Tempe, AZ 85281
Phoenix New Times's Description
College kids and ramen go together like peanut butter and jelly (which, now that we think of it, students love too). Tempe’s favorite noodle bar is conveniently located on University Drive in the heart of ASU’s campus, serving ramen, udon, rice bowls, and drinks like boba slushies, tea, beer, and sake. And this ramen is nothing like the plastic package you paid a handful of coins for. Republic Ramen & Noodles injects four varieties of broth – miso, shoyu, shio, and spicy – with meaty flavors and spices and lets it simmer for hours. When served, the noodles pool at the bottom of the bowl, and succulent toppings like fatty pork, hard-boiled eggs, naruto fish paste, tofu, garlic puree, and bean sprouts are added on top. For a cheap, light meal, the Japanese restaurant also serves appetizers for three to four bucks, including gyoza (fried dumplings with pork, scallion, and ginger), shrimp purses, seaweed salad, squid salad, and vegetable tempura.

I visited Republic Ramen & Noodles for the first time about a week ago. My boyfriend & I were planning on stopping at Subway, saw this place, and decided to try it out instead. The atmosphere inside the place is really great, and the people working there were more than happy to explain things on the menu. I ordered a couple of appetizers, as I wasn't too hungry, and both were great. It's hard to go wrong with edamame & veggie tempura, but my boyfriend also really enjoyed his big bowl of ramen, and he had plenty of left-overs to take home! We're definitely planning on going back- hopefully when I'm a little more hungry this time! There's also a huge boba/tea bar inside- I've heard the peach tea boba is pretty spectacular, but I've yet to try it out for myself!
Tips from foursquare
You get a boat-load of food, that's good too, for not a whole lotta change!
Thai milk tea with boba is AMAZING mmm best bobas around
Add an egg. You won't regret it!
The only ramen shop I've found in Arizona, its affordable and plentiful. I really enjoy the Pork Ramen with all the fixings.
Best gyoza I've had in years.
