Phoenix New Times' Description
Turning an old chemistry lab into a destination art space isn't exactly rocket science but did take artist David Therrien quite a bit of work. When he purchased the former home of the Arizona Testing Lab, which used to analyze crime evidence for the Phoenix Police Department, the building needed quite a bit of TLC. He took back the property, a massive 9,000 square foot warehouse south of downtown Phoenix, from the grips of squatters and general disarray – and hosted a slew of artistic experiments of his own. In 2012 the gallery featured a solo exhibition from painter Yuko Yabuki called “Heaven, Hell & Earth” that showcased stunning large scale works. The lab has also hosted more off-beat exhibitions, from gigantic installation pieces to technology-based events pitting man versus machine.
