Phoenix New Times's Description
The brick walls of Kitty's are as solid as its patrons: Good friendly folk who look up to say hello, introduce you to their boozing buddies, razz the bartenders, yell out the answers to questions on the game shows that appear on the bar's TVs, and scold you if you put a napkin over your beer before you go out for a smoke break ("No one's gonna take it"). Once Mugsy's and then Gus Murphy's, this dive has stayed true to its neighborhood niche for the past 20 years, serving up $2.25 happy hour pints and $1.25 PBRs from noon 'til close on Tuesdays and Thursdays. And with plenty of pool, Texas Hold'em, and Friday-night dancing in Kitty's open, walk-and-talk interior, socializing isn't just encouraged, it's damn near mandatory.
