Phoenix New Times' Description
With sleek décor, a lively clientele, and a menu full of
classic American crowd-pleasers, Corbin's has raised the bar on the
definition of a local hangout. The bar serves up reasonably priced
wines, specialty cocktails, and lots of beer, amusingly categorized
as "corporations," "international conglomerates," and "artisans."
Appetizers like stone-fired quesadillas and nachos are big enough to
share, and main dishes run the gamut from hefty sandwiches and
burgers to entrees like cheese- and chile-stuffed chicken draped in
tomatillo cream sauce. Desserts like the warm homemade brownie with
vanilla bean gelato provide a sweet conclusion.
After meaning to hit this neighborhood joint for 5 or 6 years, we finally got around to trying the grub at Corbin's. The wife had a steak, and I had their famed grilled cheese sandwich. After meaning to hit this neighborhood joint for 5 or 6 years, we finally got around to trying the grub at Corbin's. The wife had a steak, and I had their famed grilled cheese sandwich. The sandwich was good, although I don't know if it's worthy of an award... but the wife's steak was deemed 'nummy' and half of it even came home for her lunch the next day. Atmosphere is open and too loud to hold a decent conversation, and while our server was bubbly and eager, he wasn't very attentive to our requests ('slaw on a separate plate' came in the same bowl-thing that the sandwich did, for example). Open parking spaces in their tiny lots (there are two of them) are apparently a rare commodity, so we parked about a block away and hoofed it. Overall, not bad, but not knock-your-socks-off great either. Might give them another spin someday.
Tips from foursquare
Fantastic atmosphere & Hospitality. Definitely a well keep screat spot to have a great meal & Martini.
Make sure you tip Mark the bartender well. He pours an excellent cocktail.
Corbin's serves this really good pickled cauliflower as a side. Ask for a little extra.
