  • For thousands of years humankind has embraced the art of combining yeast and the finest grapes to create the nectar of the gods. This concoction has traveled the world -- from the upper tiers of society all the way down to Strawberry Hill. Even Arizona has a stake in vino, thanks to Maynard James Keenan.

You don't have to travel the world (or head to Jerome) to get a taste of grape-y...

  • This is an average sandwich:

It is called a Gruyère Ham Stack. Classified as a hot sandwich, in this case, it is merely warm. The "stack" portion of its moniker might better refer to its overabundance of arugula than the ham, which tastes more of salt than pork. The Gruyère is barely noticeable, unless you consider its waxy texture. Not so with the onions, which compete...

  • Despite what its name implies, Labor Day should be about everything but actual labor. We find it hard to relax in the confines of this albeit spread-out city, but the groves at the Queen Creek Olive Mill definitely lend themselves to a day of respite.

On Monday, September 3, the QC crew will celebrate in the mellowest of ways during The Grill at the Mill, featuring live music and...

I LOVE sushi, and this place came highly recommended when we first moved to the Valley. We went... and it was good. But it was nothing to write home about. I can only afford their cocktails during happy hour, and their sushi was small for the price. There are much better sushi places nearby that offer better rolls and lower prices. Cool place, but I feel that there is...

    10/15/12

Hell no! A few months ago after dropping in and briefly touring their buffet, I decided to give them a shot, but quickly found after grabbing a tray that most of the food looked like it was sitting under the heat lamps for hours, and the quality just looked disgusting. Just seeing some of it, I lost my appetite partially and decided to stick with non-meat dishes so...

    10/04/12

Tryst Cafe is easily accessible as it’s right off of 101, but I’ll admit that it’s slightly hidden as it’s in a strip mall across from the Desert Ridge Shopping Center. Their goal is to serve tasty locally and organically sourced foods. In addition they have several vegan friendly options on their menu.

When I arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the...
