  • It's been a good year for Tempe spazz-funk weirdos Playboy Manbaby, which in that time has morphed from an art-punk joke into something more concrete.

"We're actually a band," singer Robbie Pfeffer says incredulously. "We practice and make new songs and show up to the shows relatively on time. Nobody's hospitalizingly drunk — it's neat."

    These are impressive...

  • "Fayuca" is Spanish slang for the contraband markets that spring up in Mexico. These are places where any assortment of illicit goods can be found and purchased, from televisions to leather jackets, prosthetic limbs to staple foods. And it is where that Phoenix's reggae-punk-Latin rock band gets its name.

"We're kind of the same as the black market, where everything is imported from...

A friendly BBQ joint. Greeted upon entry by the owner. You can tell they take pride in being friendly and neighborly. The ribs were good, and the BBQ sauce is what you would expect for Louisiana BBQ. Personally not a big fan of the brisket because it was too lean for me. But that really is just my taste. I like my brisket juicy and fatty. The pulled chicken was...

Probably the best BBQ in Phoenix. Worth the trip to South Phoenix. It is a small place, but legit. The owner is always behind the counter and very mindful of every plate served. The ability to order lean to fatty brisket and everything in between gives this place an honesty about their meat. The owner is from Corpus Christi as is my wife. She agrees, this is legist...
