Description

Located in a sea of noodle shops along South Federal, Pho Duy serves up pho that's among the best in town. And pho fans know it, too. This tiny spot sees a constant frenzy of activity, with eaters rotating through the tables jam-packed into the space, giving fast-moving servers barely enough time to clear away empty bowls and unused herbal accoutrements before the next party sits down to dine. The second outpost, in Broomfield, offers an expanded menu with equally excellent bun and a slightly less frenzied atmosphere. This is one of the few pho spots that offers a version of the traditional Vietnamese dish with a veggie broth.

Warming trends: The bare-bones Pho Duy provides warm comfort food just in time for winter

I was sweating. Profusely. Not even my clinical-strength deodorant could hold back the flood, and I kept my arms pinned firmly to my sides so as not to alert my boyfriend to my predicament. We were both sniffling, and tears threatened to start... More »

  • 2013 | Best Pho

Fans of pho will stick up for their favorite joints like a couple of old-timers hashing out the finer points of Ford versus Chevy. When it comes to being the best, though, the tiny details add up to unquestioned excellence. Pho Duy gets those details right: the multi-layered complexity of the long-simmered beef broth, the fresh and artfully sliced rare steak, and the delicate and mild strands of tripe. If the dense fragrance of the spices isn't enough to end the argument, one spoonful will... More »

  • 2012 | Best Pho

The Denver area has dozens and dozens of pho shops, most of which serve up decent bowls of noodle soup. But only a few really stand out, and the one that rises to the top is Pho Duy. The menu is as spare as the decor at this strip-mall spot; save for a few specialties and spring rolls, there's not much offered beyond pho. But the kitchen doesn't need to make anything else to pull in crowds. Its intensely layered broth, which tastes like it comes from a very well-seasoned pot, supports nests... More »

  • 2011 | Best Pho

Pho Duy has been slinging pho -- and not much else -- for nearly two decades, and the kitchen makes the noodle soup in a way that'll please even the most resolute purist. The dish starts with dark and pungent beef broth, with depth added by slices of onions, cooked soft, their flavor infused into the liquid. That base plays host to different kinds of meat: thin strips of peppery, tender flank steak; slices of fatty brisket; chewy chunks of tendon and textured strips of tripe,... More »

  • 2011 | Best Dinner Under $10

Tucked into a dilapidated shopping area on Federal and flanked by an impossible-to-maneuver parking lot, Pho Duy has somehow managed to keep slinging pho for nearly two decades. Every seat in the sparse dining room is almost always filled, as staffers scurry through the crowd to take orders, unceremoniously deliver dishes and then clear away the remnants just in time to seat the next group of diners coming in. Save for a few appetizers and specials, this shop simply hawks pho, which starts... More »
